In times gone by the White Horse at Uffington was re-chalked or scoured annually and was the opportunity for a huge fair with much drinking and scurrilous behaviour. Eventually it got too rowdy and was stopped. You can still scour the horse but it is done much more sedately by signing up on the National Trust website.
