I have taught printmaking workshops to adults and children for over twenty years in a variety of different settings from inner city reception classes to a community centre in West Falkland while the British Army patrolled outside. I am always up for the challenge of teaching printmaking to new people!
My main focus when I teach is that people have fun, learn a new skill and leave with something that they have made and can take pride in.
The list below doesn’t cover everything I am happy to do so if you have an idea that involves a printmaker do get in touch and we can have a chat about your plans.
I have taught many workshops in primary and secondary schools in Southampton, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight from one day taster sessions to long-term funded inter-curricular projects.
I enjoy working with teachers to adapt the workshops to fit the scheme of work they feed into.
I can provide materials or give your school a kit list of materials to buy.
I am fully DBS checked.
“I had so much fun! I wish that we can do this more often in art.”
“Did you know that printing is the reason we have upper case and lower? That tells you where they store their letters.”
“It was really fun to print my word. My word was ‘UNITED’, and I cannot wait to show my mum.”
Year 3 Mount Pleasant Junior School – letterpress workshop
Make EnquiryI am available to come to your setting and teach workshops for adults for groups of up to 12 people. My workshops are fun and informal and will teach you everything you need to know about the technique to get started and hopefully continue printing at home. All we really need is tables and a sink as I can provide small presses and all the materials needed (or give you a materials list if you prefer to source them yourselves).
“Katherine is an inspirational tutor. When you attend any of her day courses you are met with positivity and enthusiasm, and straight away you know you are in a creative space both physically and mentally. Katherine’s technical expertise enables you to fully understand the technique and its possibilities. She promotes experimentation and creativity in whatever discipline she is teaching and before you know it you are hooked with the love of printmaking.”

Make EnquiryIf you require some 1-2-1 in-depth tuition I can come to your home or studio to help. I can do this for Linocut, Woodcut and Letterpress and also some bookbinding techniques. We will discuss your end goals beforehand to work out how much time you need to achieve them.
“Katherine is an extremely supportive and flexible teacher, I came away with so many ideas and she was able to answer so many questions. In one day, I learnt so much, not only did she help me create beautiful prints, I was prepared for my next project as well.”

Make EnquiryAs a keen letterpress printer I am able to help you set up your Adana press and get it working for you. Your press will need to be fitted with rollers and runners. I can work on all sizes of tabletop Adana press from 8x5 to HS1.
“I bought my Adana second-hand from eBay following a weekend course with Katherine at Red Hot Press. Then I stared at it not really remembering what to do. It was great to have a visit from her with her box of tricks. In two hours she talked me through cleaning, oiling, setting the press up, proofing and advice on inks to buy. She made it such fun and I was confident to go ahead.”
